Lions QB Stafford tried his knee on practice Wednesday

Since sustaining a knee injury in Oct. 4 loss to the Bears at Chicago, the Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford made his first step toward returning to field by taking part in the team’s Wednesday practice.

The knee injury has caused the quarterback to miss Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and makes his status for this weekend’s game questionable. However, neither the team nor the coach Jim Schwartz wants to rush him to put on back his Lions jersey. And Stafford said he would wait to see how the knee feels after practice.

“It was good to be doing something again,” he said. “The question will be how it reacts tomorrow. I’m not even thinking about playing on Sunday right now — I just want to see how it feels on Thursday.”

Schwartz said Wednesday that the team will not decided on whether to have Stafford play until Sunday. And it is the same with wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who missed Wednesday practice with knee injury.
