Jaguars face third home game to be blacked out, as expected

By so far, the Jacksonville Jaguars has not sold out any home game in time to avoid a local black out. And it is the same to this Sunday’s game against the winless St. Louis Rams. The blackout means the game will not be televised in Jacksonville or in secondary markets that include Gainesville, Daytona Beach, Orlando and Savannah, Ga.

Not a surprise at all for the team owner Wayne Weaver has made it clear even before the season that the small-market franchise is unlikely to sell out any home game in 2009 season. And that is why the team has a plan to extend the market into Orlando.

Another reason for not selling out the home games, including games against the Arizona Cardinals and against the Tennessee Titans, is that about 17,000 fans opted not to renew their season tickets this year because of the economic climate.
